Ford Motor : Dearborn man makes a 1965 Ford Mustang out of snow

Feb. 13--A convertible in the middle of February?

Passers-by might be surprised to find what's parked in Jacob and Lizzie DiMaria's front yard in west Dearborn: A bright white 1965 Ford Mustang with the top down, made of snow.

"I don't know if people think I'm crazy or not, but I like it," Jacob DiMaria, 25, said.

The winter weather has led some Metro Detroiters to get creative with their free time. Take, for example, the viral hit out of Ferndale last week of a man dressed as a T-Rex on skis being towed by a Jeep Wrangler Sport.

Jacob DiMaria, a technologist at Ford Motor Co., said the car sculpture grew out of brotherly competition.

"A few weeks ago we had some really good packing snow so I made a little snow dog out on the back deck and my brother, that same day, he made a bear. ... So when we had all this snow, I was like, 'Oh I gotta step it up,'" Jacob DiMaria said.

The snow sculpture took him about 10 hours to make -- six hours on Sunday and four on Monday -- Jacob DiMaria said.

He said he started by assembling a big block of snow and then carved out the body of the Mustang using shovels.

The proportions, Jacob DiMaria said, are a little off--the wheels aren't quite right, the hood's not long enough. But it's "close-ish," he said.

"It's not perfect but it's what it is," Jacob DiMaria said.
