Edison International : SCE to Conduct Water System Maintenance on Catalina Island

ROSEMEAD, Calif., May 15, 2018 - Southern California Edison will be conducting maintenance on Avalon's freshwater distribution system. Work is scheduled to begin on Friday and conclude at the end of June. This work is needed to ensure SCE can continue to reliably supply drinking water to customers across Catalina Island.

Routine inspections have identified water isolation valves that need to be replaced or installed in key areas of the system. Isolation valves are critical to the system's integrity and are used to isolate specific areas of a pipeline in order to conduct regular maintenance or in the event of an emergency.

To safely complete this work, it is necessary to temporarily shut down water service in the area served by each valve. Not all Avalon customers will be affected by each segment of the work, only those served by distribution water lines connected to the valve being installed.

Work for this project is planned for Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Customers affected will receive a formal notice from SCE before it starts.

Notices will include the date and time of the shutdown and will be issued at least 48 hours in advance. Impacted customers can expect to be without service for about eight hours only on the day the valve is installed.
