The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is kicking off the third year of efforts to warm the homes of those struggling to pay winter heating bills through its Gift of Power program. DP&L will provide a $115,000 corporate grant, along with DP&L customer and community donations, to assist families and neighbors in staying warm. Every dollar given is administered by The Salvation Army.

Since the program launch in 2015, more than 1000 families in the DP&L service territory have received assistance. “The Gift of Power fund allows us to lend a hand to those who need it the most, helping to avoid the difficult choice between a warm home and other necessities. Through the generous donations from DP&L customers along with support from DPL and our community, we have lessened their burden and helped our neighbors on a path back to self-sufficiency,” said Tom Raga, DP&L President and CEO.

Anyone can get behind when unexpected things happen. The loss of a job, death of a spouse, major medical bills or other financial hardships can make it difficult to stay current with monthly bills. Donations to the Gift of Power help to prevent disconnection or to quickly restore power to customers who have been disconnected.

The Gift of Power helps DP&L customers who are just above the income guidelines for other Ohio Energy Assistance programs. The program begins the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 16, 2018) and runs through April 15, 2018.
